My paintings are realistic portraits of people in their environments. Each narrative allows the viewer access to the life of the sitter. To reveal qualities of my subject, I gather their “props” and control the lighting, creating a specific mood. Color mixing is crucial; the palette consumes my time, while I strive to create the perfect color. While painting I try to evoke the environment of my subject, the feel and smell of their studio, the noise that surrounds them. I try to be conscious of not only what my subject looks like, but also who they are.
